Katherine’s debut novel, The Art of Poison, set in 1857, publishes February 2027.
She is published by Firefinch where her author profile and details of the book can be found.
After reading English at Oxford, Katherine acted in roles ranging from Phaedra to Blanche duBois (TMA nominated) and in productions staged by the RSC, Donmar, Almeida, Young Vic and NT. She performed in premieres of Caryl Churchill, Howard Brenton, Phyllis Nagy and Timberlake Wertenbaker, and was directed by Stephen Daldry, Nina Raine and Harold Pinter.
Katherine founded Palimpsest in 2013 to create fully imagined immersive worlds, telling stories through theatre, film, audio and online. She wrote a multi-platform version of HEDDA GABLER for a London tour of grand historic houses. She was then commissioned to research and write four original plays for Leighton House, Dr Johnson’s house (twice) and William Morris's Red House, homing in on a point of crisis for each of their famous inhabitants. She has adapted THE CHERRY ORCHARD, THE SEAGULL, IVANOV and THE CASTLE OF OTRANTO (for the Jane Austen season on the BBC) for BBC Radio 3 & 4.
Katherine co-wrote the comedy short PERIOD DRAMA that premiered at Middlebury New Filmmakers festival in Vermont August 26th 2023.
“Katherine Tozer is the most thorough historical playwright working in London today, with keen attention to detail which she balances with lyrical and euphonious understanding of language as spoken.”
